Busy Two Weeks Lead to MULTIPLE Arrests

Four people are behind bars after an armed robbery in the Rye Patch Community on Jan. 16th. They include 2 males (Matthew B. McMillian -26 and Kyle J Sedgwick - 19), 1 female (Jessica Chisholm - 18), and one 16 year old juvenile. Multiple warrants have been issued for each of these offenders and they are all still currently incarcerated.

One male arrested for Drug Possession and Attempting to Elude. A deputy tried to stop Eli V Brock on Jan. 26th for a busted winshield. As Brock pulled onto the side of the road he drove off a ramp, crashing his car in the ditch. The deputy could smell drug aroma from the car as he approached. The offender bolted from him and starting running down the highway. The TASER was deployed, quickly ending the pursuit which led to Brock's apprehension. He is currently still in jail on a marijuana possession charge and numerous traffic citations.

Around 3AM on January 31st two black males were arrested on drug charges on Hwy 301 in Ludowici after being pulled over for an equipment violation. The first subject, Michael Williams of Hinesville is being charged with Possession, Driving on a Suspended License, and Obsruction of a LEO, after he tried to flee on foot as he was being placed in the back seat of a patrol car. His passenger Edward Jones of Ludowici is being charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute.
Both Marijuana and the dangerous drug XTC were confiscated during this incident.

ADAM MANNING is now behind bars. He was arrested on the night of Jan. 29th by a LCSD deputy. Manning is wanted by M.A.C.E. on a drug warrant. He was recently featured in an article in the Coastal Courier relating to this warrant for arrest.

Parolee ERIC STEPHENS has also been arrested. Stephens has been eluding LCSD deputies since September. He was wanted on a Parole Violation.

We've also arrested a couple other individuals over the past couple weeks on burglary, child support, and Failure To Appear warrants.

New Communications Officers

The Long County Sheriff's Office is further benefiting the citizens of the county by hiring two night-time communications officers. This feature is currently being paid for by monies from the grant we received last year. We are still an understaffed agency and have to switch our phone lines over to Ludowici Dispatch after 6:00 PM each day. But when these two new Comm. Officers start work, that will soon become a thing of the past and callers will be able to contact the sheriff's office directly 24 hrs a day. Our department has already hired one of the Comm. Officer with the second soon to follow. This is the first of many exiting and new BIG CHANGES to come ...

C.H.A.M.P.S. Program for L. C. Fifth Graders

The 2009 Edition of the Georgia Sheriff's Association C. H.A.M.P.S. (Choosing Healthy Activities and Methods Promoting Safety) Program kicked off this past Monday JAN 26th for Long County Fifth Graders. The Sheriff's Office currently has a certified Bryan County Deputy teaching the class with no expense to Long County other than fuel. Mr. David was sworn in about a week prior to starting the program and we know he will have fun educating our kids on good habits and general safety practices.

GRANT MONEY Pays Off !!!

The people of Long County can rest assured that the monies awarded back in FEB 2008 from the $347,800 justice grant is being put to good use. So far the department has purchased new X-26 Tasers, Alco-Sensor II (BAC) testers, new RADAR's and perhaps most important (at least to the deputies) ... NEW patrol vehicles. That's right, the aging white cruisers in our fleet will soon be retired to be succeeded by colorful replacements with ALL-NEW graphics and state of the art features. We now have all our new vehicles in as of Nov 22nd 2008 which includes 5 2009 Crown Victoria Police Interceptors (2 black, 2 navy, and 1 Arizona beige). The sixth vehicle is an '09 F-150 unmarked (Chief Deputy's) cruiser. The new cars have been outfitted with digital camera systems with audio and video capabilities, rugged push bumpers, and heavy duty spotlights. Our office has also used the funds to hire a full time receptionist Mrs. BETH REDDISH and we are happy to welcome her aboard. She has caught on rather quickly and is real good at what she does. She will be a great addition to the department's personnel.
